Dr. Somdutt Prasad's Journey

Meet

The Specialist

Dr Somdutt Prasad completed his post-graduation in Ophthalmology in India in 1993 before moving to the UK for advanced training. His journey in the UK was marked by extensive training in various ophthalmology units, culminating in Royal College-approved Retinal Fellowships in Medical and Surgical Retina at Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral. Along his career path, he acquired numerous qualifications, significantly enhancing his expertise.

Transitioning into academia, he served as a clinical lecturer at the University of Sheffield. After achieving his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in Ophthalmology, he was appointed as a substantive consultant ophthalmologist in Wirral in 2001, a position he held until 2013. During this period, he worked in both the NHS and private sectors. Notably, he also served as the Clinical Director of the Special Surgery Directorate

for five years and was honored with six Clinical Excellence Award points for his contributions as an NHS consultant.

In 2013, for family reasons, he returned to India and has since been practicing at two of Kolkata’s leading private hospitals. His clinical and surgical practice remains active, and he is deeply involved in supporting professional organizations. He is a regular speaker and educator at various local, regional, national, and international ophthalmology conferences, including the Asia Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (APACRS), the Asia Pacific Vitreo-retinal Society (APVRS), All India Ophthalmology Society (AIOS), Lebanese Ophthalmic Society, and the Joint Singapore-Malaysia Ophthalmic meeting, among others.
